The Capitalism Tribunal

More and more people can see new constraints on our freedom. They see widening inequality and the threat of ecological disaster growing. Are these problems caused by the Capitalist system? We are putting the system on trial in The Capitalism Tribunal.

Is Capitalism a Crime?

The promise of Capitalism was to make life better for everybody. Yet a growing number of people are questioning what it actually achieves today. They see an increasingly lack of freedom, rising inequality and growing dysfunction, with social harmony increasingly threatened and undermined by the frenetic pace of economic activity. At the same time the threat of ecological disaster looms, for many species as well as our own.

In The Capitalism Tribunal we will give Capitalism a fair trial. It starts with the collection of charges on the internet.

Everyone is invited to accuse, or defend, Capitalism. The charges you submit will be read, collected and then transferred into reality, a real trial. The first capitalism tribunal will be held in Vienna and examine the charges against European Capitalism. Is the system guilty or not guilty of undermining or supporting healthy social progress? The following information is needed for each charge submitted:

1. Who is charged or indicted? In the first input field we ask you to name the event, the legal person (e.g., corporation or government institution), public figure or a civil code under which you wish to make a charge.
2. What is the charge and why? What are you saying Capitalism should be charged with and why?
3. How do you support this accusation? What evidence supports your claim? Where are the weblinks that provide data? Are there victims or witnesses? You can provide an e-mail address to submit secret evidence.

Worldwide preferment of a charge!

Every charge is admitted, read and will be published without censorship. Only in substantiated individual cases will charges be redacted or deleted (see Statute of the Tribunal).

The capitalism tribunal in Vienna in May and November 2016

The charges will be submitted and Capitalism will be put on trail in a Vienna Court. The prosecution will accumulate and submit each charge The defence team will have access to the same evidence as the prosecution. We will have an experienced judge, with the outcome decided by a jury.

In the first trial 28 charges will be heard by the court over seven days. The court will issue its judgement and, where the verdict is guilty, appropriate sanctions. Though these will not be legally binding, they will be published extensively to encourage discussion and promote political debate.
