Event Details

A citizens’ observatory for family farmers, gardeners and growers

Do you grow your own food? Do you have an allotment? Own a small farm? Or have a community or school garden? Do you want to develop your knowledge and skills on soil and growing for food, and take practical steps to preserve the soil for future generations? We will use simple, fun experiments using a soil sensor, soil testing kit, and easy applications to achieve this.

The GROW Observatory aims to underpin smart and sustainable custodianship of land and soil, whilst meeting the demands of future food production. Together we also aim to solve a longstanding challenge for space science, and help efforts to forecast and prepare for climate events, such as heat waves and floods, by validating the detection of soil moisture from satellites.

We will start small scale during the 2017 growing season, when you can join us to help co-create the experiments. To join the team, see job opportunities below. To join the GROW community and take part when the project starts, please send us your details using the form.
